That "sensitive ache", I've discovered, is only intensifies as years pass. Nearly forty years of parenting leaves it unfinished and acutely present as I walk further along the shore with child, and grandchild alike. Gorgeous words Shawn🌱
I love this. My oldest is only 10 with 2 more behind him and one more on the way so we are still kind of “crafting” the boats but I know the “tipping” days are ahead. Parenting is such a painful yet beautiful process.
Oh the ache. We’ve set 4 boats afloat, watched them tip, right themselves, tip to the other side, right again. One boat remains, still splintering us. This is hard and painful work but the whole point is to float the boats, right?

I’m parenting 3 teenagers right now. Yes. All of it. Yes.
Great metaphor—every parent fears this pain, but we know it has to happen someday. Just one more sunset, please…

Mmm. Shawn. This really struck me, and all of mine are still little.
Also, I just wanted to applaud the pacing and momentum of your writing. Your use of enjambment (especially “It did / not.”) got me so well:)
