Oh my goodness, Shawn, this made me tear up--I remember when you and Maile shared with us the birth of those two littles...and now they're 7 and 9? Impossible.
What a poignant tale of pancake making and the passage of time. Absolutely spot on.
Growing up and into young adulthood, I think we have a particular view of time and kind of settle into that. Then, if you have children, time completely changes, fluctuates from super slow to super fast. It's mind-boggling. And then they're on their way.
I knew I would like this post as soon as I saw the title. I am a sucker for a good literary allusion. WCW for the win. Beautiful post. Mine are all gone. No littles left. The house is sold. All that remains is my brain full of memories that refuses to let it all go.
The youngest of our eight graduated in the spring, another one got married last month, and we have seven grandchildren. So many blessings, but still. Blessings to you!
Love this so much. You really did capture that every moment that parents perpetually inhabit.
Thank you, Abigail. Trying to inhabit these moments more deeply.

Thanks, Jody. It's been a pleasure traveling this road with you. Between the two of us it's been lots of miles and years and words written.
Yes indeed, lots of miles and years and words written. Thankful to be on the same trail of words...
This beautiful post played violence with my emotions 😅. Our oldest is 17. Time has gone by much too quickly for me.

Loved this so much 🥰
Thanks, Kym :)

Oh, my. "A brain full of memories." I'll be thinking about that.
'...and there is nothing else.' What a sentence! Love this.
Thanks for reading, Amber!
"It’s an incredibly sad and wonderful thing, watching your kids make their own way into the world."
well said. drinking deeply the times with them, while holding loosely so they can 'fly'. sad and wonderful indeed.
Thanks, Melony!

Thanks, Dawn! Sounds like an adventure!
Boy are you in for it. Enjoy this time as well.
Every stage is so different, isn't it? Definitely learning, or trying to learn, how to live here and now.
