How to rework a scene that's not working...

Today I'm working my way back through what I've already written and I've come to a scene that needs some work. Okay, let's be honest...it needs an overhaul. Maybe a complete rewrite. But what didn't work in the scene the first time? And what can I do to take a different approach, hopefully creating a scene that is more compelling, raises the stakes, and moves the story forward?
