I'm square in the middle of feeling disinterested in the work, perhaps a bit overwhelmed by everything going on in life, and I'm facing the question: Is it worth doing the work when you don't feel like it? Is it better to take a break or to push through?
I think the only way to answer this is with another question: What are my goals? What am I aspiring to in my writing life? If I am okay with writing as an occasional hobby, then I would imagine that breaks at any point are completely fine.
People who have the hobby of flying kites take breaks from that, and it doesn't effect them in the least. People who like to gather and arrange spoons probably take breaks from that, from time to time. But competitive runners...I imagine they have to push through. As does anyone who wants to gain a certain level of competency, even expertise, in just about anything.
For me, writing is not simply a hobby, so I know I have to push through.
How do you decide when to push through or when to take a break?
