How to access 70+ videos on writing and the writing life

Are you looking for something that could help you write the first draft of that novel you’ve always wanted to write?

Are you looking for some encouragement and practical knowledge about the craft of writing fiction?

Back in 2021, Maile and I began an online community for writers that would last about three years: it was called “The Stories Between Us.” It grew out of the podcast we had at the time, the pandemic that was making us all crazy, and a video course we offered called “The Nine Month Novel.” We made some lovely friends during the last three years in this community as we all helped each other work through our writing lives, and there are some beautiful books in the world that might not be here if we hadn’t all journeyed together for a time.

This past summer, Maile and I realized we needed to step back from a lot of things, including our podcast, the courses we were offering, and the online community. Our family needed us, and we both felt the need for an emotional reboot.

Except . . . now we have all of these videos from the various courses we created: 39 videos from The Nine Month Novel; around 30 videos from The Six Month Memoir; and 12 videos from our ReVision Experience. And this Substack space continues to grow! I hate to have all those videos just sitting there, so we’ve decided to make them available to anyone who is a paying subscriber here.

Two things are going to happen:

1. You’ll have access to all videos in all three courses as long as you’re a paying subscriber. It is currently set up as a page (in the top navigation bar, “Our Writing Videos”) and you can work your way through them as quickly or as slowly as you’d like.

2. Starting on Friday, February 2nd, I’ll post one of the Nine Month Novel videos every Friday and leave space in the comments for us to chat about the topic of the week. I’d love if we created a bit of a writing community here, something simple where we can encourage each other a learn from one another. The Nine Month Novel video series starts with a video called Hopes and Goals and then moves through the various elements of writing, attitudes we can bring to the work, and strategies for completing the first draft of a novel.
