Maile and I have been in Kentucky for a few days with a small group of writer friends, a group we gather with every year in the cold, dark days of February. We spend most of our time catching up on life, eating good food, reading some of our work to one another, and talking about writing. Heavenly.
Yesterday, I read a chapter of this book I’m writing (the one we’re talking about in Video of a Novel), and their response was so encouraging that I now feel like I have the emotional and mental fortitude I need to push through and really do this. Write this story. That’s the best of what a writer’s community can do for you.
Find your creative people, if you can.
Now, on to four things for your weekend:
There are only a few weeks remaining to sign up for our Nine Month Novel class! If you’ve always wanted to write a novel, or if you need some encouragement and teaching to get you through your current work, find out all about the course HERE.
This week on the podcast we spoke with cozy mystery author Andi Cumbo-Floyd about the major twists and turns her writing life has taken in the last few years, the difference between cozy mysteries and regular old mysteries, and who some of her favorite mystery writers are. Attention indie authors! Andi is a good guide.
“And honestly, that’s pretty much how I now have written almost 800 religion columns – one sentence at a time…”
Still one of my favorite go-to lessons on becoming a better writer: “In six seconds, you’ll hate me. But in six months, you’ll be a better writer.”
Since this is my weekend post, everyone has access to today’s Video of a Novel; if you’d like to follow along with daily access and join me on this journey through writing the first draft of a novel, click the Subscribe button below!
