Our oldest is off to college in a few months and our second oldest is currently in England and number three will be a freshman in high school and number four turns 13 tomorrow and number five is reminding me more and more of myself and our youngest is still here for all the cuddles, so that means all is well.
We’ll spend this weekend mostly in the outdoors (dodging thunderstorms, apparently) and soon we’ll be heading for East Tennessee to be with family during hard times and life isn’t easy when you want it to be, is it? Cancer seems to be everywhere: the physical disease, but also social cancer in which we tear each other apart, and spiritual cancer in which all feels like darkness. Is everything is being eaten away from inside?
But I recently read this beautiful book, This is Happiness, a gift from a friend, and I keep thinking about it. Perhaps our great hope is that there is still beauty to be found, even now, and will we open our eyes to see it?
