After Two Weeks Off Social Media

Reflections on my time away from the Great Distractors

At the beginning of the year, Maile and I recorded an episode over at The Stories Between Us called, “A Life of Faithfulness or a Life of Distraction,” and that sort of became my rallying cry for the year (in that sort of strange way you can have a rallying cry the first week of January but then, within a few days, the rest of your life comes along and drowns it out).

Faithfulness to the task at hand. Distraction. Interesting opposites, I think. And while I haven’t thought much about the two words in the last few weeks, I can say that my decision to take a break from social media has definitely decreased the distractions in my life.

It’s been two weeks now since I walked away from Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. I guess I thought it would be harder than it’s been, but to be honest, I haven’t missed it all that much.

Here are six random things that I’ve noticed about myself since I jumped ship:
