I’m writing to you in a weak, post-sick haze. But I’m on the mend now and glad I have a weekend ahead to recharge and start Monday in a better space.
Anyway, this is a short one, and because I’ve been kind of out of commission, I don’t have a Video of a Novel entry for you today, but I do have a few things for you to enjoy over the weekend:
Exciting announcement! Two of our classes just opened for registration and will begin in mid-May! Have you ever wanted to write your story? Check out our Six Month Memoir course! Or if you’ve written a manuscript (fiction or nonfiction) and need some guidance on how to revise it and get it to where you want it to be, we have The ReVision Experience. Both courses include access to our writing community where you’ll receive all kinds of good stuff, including daily doses of encouragement and access to interviews we do with writers and publishing experts.
“And then suddenly, the voices start. ‘You could never write something that clever,’ one says. They always start in a whisper. And they use a tone that’s the perfect balance between school principal and sympathetic best friend. They want you to think they’re giving you the facts, just so, you know, you don’t end up looking like a fool. Tough love and all that jazz.”
Russ Ramsey, author of the new book Rembrandt is in the Wind, has had an influence on Shawn's life in two very concrete ways, so it was an honor to have him on the podcast this week, where he talks about having urgent heart surgery at the age of 40, why he thinks it's important to compare an artist's early works with their later creation (think suffering), and where he's finding hope in his creative life.
Feel like traveling to Mars?
See you all next week!
